Ground and Gate helps homeowners in Birmingham and the West Midlands get fencing, gates, decking, driveways, patios and groundworks priced by a local specialist, without chasing five firms or taking five phone calls.
You tell us about the job, roughly how long the fence is or how big the drive or patio is, and add a few photos. We show you an indicative price range straight away, then pass your enquiry to one specialist who covers your postcode. They contact you, measure up and give you a fixed price.
Who runs it
Ground and Gate is owned and run by Carl Trigg. The site is new. We are starting out in the West Midlands, building up the list of local firms that receive enquiries one area at a time, and we would rather tell you that plainly than dress it up. In some areas we may still be finding the right specialist when your enquiry arrives. If so, we tell you that on the confirmation screen and in the email, rather than passing your details to whoever happens to be free.
One specialist, not five
Most quote sites sell each enquiry to several tradesmen at once. That's why filling in one form can lead to a day of calls from numbers you don't recognise, and why the tradesmen who pay for those leads often don't bother ringing: they know they're one of five.
We do it differently. Each area has two slots: one for fencing and gates, and one for driveways and patios. Your enquiry goes to the one business that covers that kind of work in your area. If they can't take the job, we pass it to one other local specialist instead, never to several at once. They know the enquiry is theirs, so they have every reason to reply and price it properly. You deal with one firm, and if it isn't right for you, you can tell us.
What we check
Before a specialist receives any enquiry from us, we check and record:
- Public liability insurance, with the expiry date noted. If it lapses, the firm stops receiving enquiries until it is renewed.
- Waste carrier registration with the Environment Agency, where the firm takes waste away from site, such as an old fence, broken slabs or the soil dug out for a new block paving drive.
- Identity and trading name, so we know who the business is and that the name you are given is the name they trade under.
That is the full list. We don't inspect their work in person. The detail is on how we check firms.
A few days after your enquiry, we email to ask whether the specialist contacted you. If they didn't, we want to know.
What we are not
We don't do the work. Ground and Gate is an introducer and advertising service. Specialists pay us to receive enquiries in their area; homeowners pay us nothing.
That means:
- the price we show is an estimate, and the specialist sets the real price after measuring up
- your contract is with the specialist, who is responsible for the job
- we can't guarantee their workmanship, but we record every complaint and act on them

What the price ranges are based on
Our ranges are supply and fit, with waste taken away, worked out per metre for fencing and per square metre for driveways and patios, using typical West Midlands prices. They are a guide to help you budget before anyone visits. The fence cost per metre and driveway cost per m² guides show how the figures are built up.
Birmingham first
We're starting in Birmingham and the surrounding West Midlands: Sutton Coldfield, North Birmingham, Solihull, South Birmingham, Edgbaston and Harborne, Lichfield and Tamworth, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Stourbridge and Coventry. Covering a smaller area properly means we can find the right specialist for each one and keep an eye on how enquiries are handled.
