Website terms

Who we are

This website is operated under the name Ground and Gate by [Company name] Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number [company number]), registered office [registered address]. You can contact us at hello@groundandgate.co.uk. See our contact page for other ways to reach us.

What we do, and what we don't

Ground and Gate is an introducer and advertising service. We:

  • give you an indicative estimate based on your answers and photos
  • pass your enquiry, with your consent, to one local specialist who covers your area and the type of work
  • check in with you afterwards to see whether they got in touch

We don't:

  • carry out fencing, gates, decking, driveways, patios, groundworks or any other work
  • give fixed quotes
  • take payment from you. Our service is free to homeowners. Specialists pay us to receive enquiries in their area.
  • become a party to any agreement between you and the specialist

Estimates are indicative only

The price range shown on the site is an estimate worked out from your answers, your photos and typical prices in your area, per metre for fencing and per square metre for driveways and patios, with supply, fitting and waste removal included. It is a guide, not a quote or an offer. The specialist will give you their own price after looking at your photos or measuring up on site, and it may be higher or lower than our estimate. Things we can't see or you couldn't tell us about, such as soft ground, buried services, drainage problems, a thin or failed sub-base, or the true length or area, can change the price. Some jobs, such as gate automation, dropped kerbs and steep sites, always need a site visit before anyone can price them. Our fence cost per metre and driveway cost per m² guides explain what affects the figures.

You are under no obligation to accept any quote.

Your contract is with the specialist

If you accept a specialist's quote, your contract is directly with them. They are responsible for:

  • the price, the quality of the work, timings and clearing up
  • disposing of waste lawfully
  • their own insurance
  • any installer guarantee or manufacturer warranty they offer

Who applies for any permission the job needs, such as planning permission for a front-garden surface that doesn't drain to a permeable area, the council's consent for a dropped kerb, or conservation area or listed building consent, is between you and the specialist. Agree it in writing before work starts.

You have the rights that consumer law gives you against the specialist, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.

How we check specialists

Before a specialist receives enquiries, we check and record that they hold public liability insurance (with its expiry date), their waste carrier registration where they remove waste from site, and their identity and trading name. If their insurance lapses, they stop receiving enquiries until it is renewed. See how we check firms.

These checks are a reasonable starting point, not a guarantee. We don't inspect or supervise the work and we don't guarantee workmanship, prices, availability or that a specialist will contact you. We recommend you ask to see the specialist's insurance and get the quote in writing before work starts.

Complaints about a specialist

If you are unhappy with a specialist's work or conduct, raise it with them first, as they are responsible for the job.

Please tell us as well, at hello@groundandgate.co.uk. We record complaints against the specialist's record with us and take them into account when deciding whether they keep receiving enquiries. We can't settle disputes between you and a specialist, or award refunds or compensation for their work.

If you can't resolve a complaint with the specialist, you may be able to get help from Citizens Advice (0808 223 1133), or from any installer scheme or trade body the specialist belongs to, such as TrustMark.

Your responsibilities

When you send an enquiry, you confirm that:

  • you are at least 18
  • you own the property, or have the owner's permission to arrange the work
  • the information and photos you give are accurate to the best of your knowledge, and you have the right to share the photos

If a fence, wall or gate has come down and is dangerous right now, don't rely on the form. If it has fallen onto a road or pavement, tell your council. If anyone is at risk, call 999, and if anything has brought down or is touching a power line, keep away and call 105 (power cuts and damaged power lines).

Acceptable use

You must not:

  • send false, spam or joke enquiries, or enquiries using someone else's details without their permission
  • upload anything unlawful, offensive or that you don't have the right to share
  • try to get into parts of the site you aren't meant to, or interfere with how it works
  • use automated tools to copy large parts of the site or its content
  • use the site to contact specialists for any purpose other than a genuine enquiry

We may reject enquiries or block access if we think these terms have been broken.

Our content

The text, images and price guides on this site belong to us or are used with permission. You may view and print pages for your own use. You may not copy them for commercial use without our written permission. Images marked as illustrations are illustrations, not photographs of completed work.

Price guides and articles are general information, not professional advice for your situation. Check anything important, such as whether you need planning permission, where your boundary runs or whether you live in a conservation area, with your local council or a qualified professional.

Our liability to you

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

We provide our introducer service with reasonable care and skill. Because we don't do the work and the specialist is an independent business, we are not responsible for the specialist's acts or omissions, the work they carry out, their prices or any loss arising from your contract with them.

We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable when you used the site, or for business losses. The site is for household use.

We try to keep the site available and accurate but can't promise it will always be free of errors or interruptions.

Links to other websites, such as a specialist's site, a council's pages or an installer scheme's register, are for convenience. We are not responsible for their content.
